Today’s burlesque performances can often be traced back to the theaters of Victorian England, when actresses were looked down upon, and Opera was reserved for the high society of Britain’s upper class. Burlesque theaters hosted provocative parody acts of these performances and comedic skits to audiences of the nation’s working people. America fell in love with burlesque during the height of the Harlem Renaissance and began incorporating sensational striptease in the 1920’s.

Absinthe’s Speakeasy Revue brings burlesque back to its theatrical roots to immerse audiences in the grandeur, comedy, and sensuality that separates this over-the-top art from all the others. Absinthe’s Speakeasy Revue celebrates the diversity within the artform and strives to leave audiences feeling inspired, empowered, and in awe!

The Speakeasy Revue strives to continue to elevate the production quality and creativity of burlesque shows in Southern Oregon, while also providing more opportunities for diversity and inclusivity amongst performers and burlesque styles, by producing both bespoke productions with the highest-quality local and guest performers as well as spotlight shows to nurture the next generation of performers.
